Sydney Uni ready to out-fly the Magpies

Sydney University are ready to snatch their first win of the season and upset their opponents Wentworthville Magpies this Sunday in the Sydney Shield competition.

The match-up will prove to be a battle of the best, as both teams will be chasing their first two points on the competition ladder, but Sydney Uni’s spine utility, Laurence Zarounas, is confident in his team’s outfit to secure the win.

“As a team we’ve got a good core group of leaders with Ron Massey experience that steer the team around the park really well, complimented by some young exciting players in both the forwards and backs,” Zarounas told NSWRL.com

“It’s a very odd season with players coming from everywhere looking for a place to play so it’s very competitive, but it’s a good challenge,

“Training has been good this week, we focused on our structure and we’re starting to gel as a team and become a unit as opposed to just talented individuals.”

Despite a 36-18 loss to Belrose Eagles last week under rainy conditions, Zarounas is looking forward to the face-off against the Magpies and says his side know exactly what they need to do in order to improve.

“Wenty will be tough as they always are, but we’re looking to work on completions and just playing high percentage footy,” he said.

“We’ve got plenty of self-belief and we’re confident that if we hold the ball and play for each other and have some pride in our defence line we’ll have success this week.”
