Sydney Shield Rd 4 | Fifth place Cronulla upset ladder leaders

Some impressive wins in the Sydney Shield this weekend. 

Cronulla Caringbah Sharks 28 def Ryde Eastwood Hawks 8

The Cronulla Caringbah Sharks have bounced back from a heavy loss last week with a 28-8 win over 2019 premiers Ryde Eastwood Hawks at Sir Thomas Mitchell Oval this afternoon.

The Sharks got out to an early lead through second-rower Rewi Brown crashed over and lock Ryan King converted to take his team to 6-0.

Winger Dj Purcell scored back-to-back for Cronulla to take their lead to 10-0.  

Ladder leaders Ryde hit back through playmaker Adam Rizk for his side to trail by six but they were dealt a blow right before half time when Sharks hooker Michael Lichaa burrowed over the line and King got the extras to take the scores to 16-4.

Adam’s brother Joshua scored for the Hawks but it wasn’t enough as King and Rea Pittman added to Cronulla’s try scoring tally and they won the game comfortably by 20 points.

Hills District 14 drew with Sydney University 14

Third and fourth placed Hills District and Sydney University couldn’t be separated in a 14-all draw at Crestwood Reserve today.

Sydney Uni winger went over Isaac Rabuatoka got his side an early 4-0 lead then five minutes later the home side hit back through winger Daylen Meredith.

University Second rower Mason Mccarthy crashed over and broke the deadlock, Benjamin Jackson converting to take the scores to 10-4.

Hills Halfback Nicholas Holliday decided to go himself and grab his side the four-pointer to get them back into the contest and Mitchell Hyde converted to take them within two points.

Second rower Jack Boyling went over for Sydney to take the scores to 14-10 at the break.

Meredith’s second try of the afternoon in the last two minutes of the match got the Bulls back into the contest and the game ended in a 14-all draw.

The match between the Belrose Eagles and the Wentworthville Magpies at Lionel Watts Park that was scheduled to play at 3:00pm today has been postponed.
