The Harvey Norman Women's Premiership kicks off its first week of Finals with two do-or-die match-ups.
The North Sydney Bears will progress in the NSW Harvey Norman Women’s Premiership after leaving the South Sydney Rabbitohs scoreless in their 24-0 elimination finals defeat.
The Bears were out for redemption after their loss to the minor premiers the Central Coast Roosters last week, and today proved they have what it takes to be true contenders for the Women’s Premiership trophy.
Winger Tyla Gambell shone on-field as she scored two tries for the foundation club in the 13th and 44th minute of the match, while other try-scorers Chloe Leaupepe and Moniqca Mo’Ale scored their first four-pointers for the season in todays do-or-die clash.
Kirra Dibb nailed the first conversion but was struck down with an ankle injury, so halfback Leaupepe was handed kicking duties and nailed every one of them, making the Bears scoreboard points seamless.
“A really good defensive and team effort from us today.” Bears manager Josh Hyland told NSWRL.com.
“Leaving them at nil was a goal from the coach. Despite a couple injuries, the girls really stuck together and that was a huge positive.”
The Bears will now face the winner out of today’s other elimination match between the Wests Tigers and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.
Hyland says they are facing their challenges week-by-week and want to continue their run throughout the finals.
“We’re looking to go one better and excited for next week against Tigers or Bulldogs.”
