20 stars for 2021 | Billy Magoulias

Billy Magoulias was an integral part of the 2019 Newtown Jets’ Canterbury Cup NSW title-winning contingent who went on to beat the Burleigh Bears to win the State Championship in almost in nearly identical circumstances.

Magoulias and host of other names – William Kennedy, Toby Rudolf, Ronaldo Mulitalo, Teig Wilton, Jaimin Jolliffe, Siosifa Talakai and Daniel Vasquez – have all earned Cronulla Sharks debuts in the NRL both during the feeder club’s successful season and since their extraordinary finals run from seventh position.

Magoulias himself will always be remembered for producing a pinpoint chip kick from midfield not once, but twice in as many weeks to help secure the Canterbury Cup and State Championship trophies in the dying moments of play.

Primarily a lock forward who possesses valuable playmaking nous, Magoulias had his first opportunity at NRL level when the Sharks took on the Cowboys in Round 19 of 2019 season where he ran for 82 metres from nine runs and made 23 tackles with only one missed, all in space of just 28 minutes.

Magoulias went on to make three more appearances in 2020 which included a memorable night in Round 2 as the 23-year-old opened his NRL try-scoring account against the Melbourne Storm.

As the 2021 season approaches, the Mascot junior will only continue develop among a competitive forward pack at the Sharks while gaining vital experience from the examples of Andrew Fifita and new arrival Aiden Tolman.

Having played off the interchange in all five matches for John Morris’ team, the goal for Magoulias in 2021 is to become a permanent fixture in the top 17 and cement a place in the run-on side.
