NSWRL congratulates Noel "John" O'Halloran after he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) in the 2021 Australia Day Honours for service to Rugby League.

Known as John, O'Halloran pioneered the modern-day Rugby League Sports Trainers Accreditation Scheme, in particular the development of the course content along with mental health and concussion awareness and is credited with the development and introduction of the League Safe (yellow shirt) program.

NSWRL Head of Football Robert Lowrie said: “It is fantastic to have John recognised for his long-standing service in our game and his acknowledgement is thoroughly deserved.”

O'Halloran, a qualified school teacher who studied at Armidale Teachers College, was an active member of the NSWRL Academy’s Coaching and Development Panel prior to his fulltime employment. He is a Group 19 JRL Life Member and a former employee of the Australian Rugby League, Country Rugby League and National Rugby League.
