The NSWRL has been deeply saddened by the passing today of former Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles captain and NSW and Australian hooker Fred Jones, aged 79.

Jones played 241 games across 14 seasons for Manly-Warringah between 1961 and 1975, including leading the club to its first premiership in 1972 and again in 1973.

He made his NSW debut in 1968, playing only one game for the Blues, and after a four-year absence, he returned to the representative arena in 1973 to play in all three interstate matches.

The NSWRL extends its sincere condolences to his family and friends.
