Tedesco and Sergis Promote The Game For All

Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues captain James Tedesco and Harvey Norman Sky Blues winger Jessica Sergis have joined forces for a new video to promote Rugby League registrations for the 2022 season which could lead participants all the way to playing State of Origin for NSW.

The NSWRL offers a variety of options for all participants including traditional (tackle), Monarch Blues Tag (non-tackle), Touch Football, Try League for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities, Wheelchair Rugby League and Physical Disability Rugby League.

The video showcases male and female participants from all formats of the game, and also includes opportunities for budding match officials.

Footy is back in 2022

Sergis, who claimed the Player of the Year Award for the Harvey Norman NSW Women’s Premiership last year, said she never expected her Rugby League journey would take her all the way to a Sky Blues jersey.

“With the Under 12s cut off, I never thought I’d be playing State of Origin. I just did it because I loved it and all my family were involved with the game”, said Sergis.

“Looking back at it and thinking about what I have now, it’s pretty surreal.

“As a young girl now knowing you can play Rugby League as a junior and you’ve got all these pathways towards playing for NSW and NRLW contracts, it’s pretty crazy but it’s a great time to be involved with the sport” said Sergis.

Tedesco, who started his Junior Rugby League career with Camden Rams before going on to captain the Blues to an Origin series win last year, said it was important for all participants to get back out on the field after last year was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The NSWRL enjoyed a strong season in 2021 with the total number of participants (107,980) rising more than five per cent from the previous pre-COVID-19 year of 2019, male participants recording their highest growth in six years, while female participants broke 20,000 for the first time in history.

2022 registrations are open across all community competitions in NSW! Head over here to sign up.
