Mark Nicholls released by Rabbitohs to join Dolphins

The South Sydney Rabbitohs have announced fan favourite Mark Nicholls has been released from the final year of his contract to join the Redcliffe Dolphins in 2023.

Nicholls will remain with the club for the 2022 season before joining the Dolphins for their first NRL season next year.

Nicholls’ career has spanned 110 NRL games across three different clubs. He made his debut for the Canberra Raiders in 2012 where he played 29 games across three seasons, before moving to the Melbourne Storm in 2016.

Nicholls managed nine games across two seasons for the Storm but didn’t feature in their Grand Final win in 2017. He switched to South Sydney in 2018 and became a fan favourite in 2021 after a breakout season which culminated with a rare double against arch rivals the Sydney Roosters in Round 24. He also played in the Grand Final loss to Penrith.

Nicholls was clearly in high regard at the foundation club with former coach Wayne Bennett appointing him captain for one game last year. The 32-year-old prop, affectionately known as ‘The Goat’, won the Bob McCarthy Clubman of the Year award in 2021.

Nicholls also featured for the Rabbitohs' NSW Cup team on several occasions over the course of his four year stint at the club.
