The Kaiviti Silktails 2021 ‘Tabu Soro’ Medallist Ratu Inoke Vasuturaga has returned home to Fiji today for personal reasons.
“It is with deep sadness that Inoke leaves the 2022 squad for this season,” said Silktails Chairman Petero Civoniceva.
“Inoke scored 14 tries for the Silktails last season, was our player of the year in 2021 and scored one of his trademark four-pointers against Burleigh Bears (trial match) last week on the Gold Coast. In the end Inoke has a young family and missed the birth of his second child last year,” he said.
Vasuturaga played all his games for the Silktails in the 2021 Ron Massey Cup at centre.
“Inoke belongs playing at an elite level but in the end family comes first and he needs to spend time with them and then we will work with him on his next move in his career,” Civoniceva said.
“Whatever path Inoke chooses he will have our support for his Kaiviti Silktails family.”
Vasuturaga, who departed from Sydney Airport today for Fiji, said he was grateful for his time with the Silktails and thanked the club for what they have done for him.
“I owe everything to the Kaiviti Silktails for what they have done for me all the way back to when I started in the EDP (elite development) program in Suva in 2020,” Vasuturaga said.
“I have been exposed to training and playing at a level that I never would have experienced. For this I am in debt to the Silktails Football Club forever and I thank all the board, players and staff for everything, and for their understanding here.
“With so much young talent in the squad the future of this club and for local Rugby League in Fiji is in good hands while the Silktails are around.”
