Country have made it two from two for the second day of the NSWRL Country v City representative weekend after defeating City 14-0 in the NSW Women’s Police game at Leichhardt Oval.
The game started with some incredibly physical defence, with neither side giving an inch although as the game went on, it was Country’s forward pack who started to dominate.
After rolling through the middle, Country backrower Maggie Townsend got the ball close to the line, shrugging off would-be defenders and offloading the ball. As the ball went through the hands, Nicole Holmes showed some incredible skills to catch the ball and slide over the line for the first try of the game.
Player of the Match Gabrielle Suckling had a great day with the boot, starting strongly after she converted from out wide to put her side ahead 6-0.
Errors started to hurt City after a dropped ball let Country into attacking field position and they were able to capitalise through Haylee Joseph who strolled over the line and extended Country’s lead to 10-0.
Country’s forward pack didn’t take their foot of the pedal as they continually dominated the ruck, resulting in Townsend crashing over for her second of the match giving her side a 14-0 lead heading into the break.
The scoreboard would stay stagnant for the remainder of the game with Country’s middle keeping City camped in their own end for the majority of the second half and combined with Suckling’s excelled kicking game, Country were able to hold on for an impressive 14-0 win.
