NSW Blues to donate Game One jerseys for charity

Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues coach Brad Fittler and captain James Tedesco today announced the team will auction off their jerseys from Game One of the Ampol State of Origin series with all proceeds to go to registered charity RuffTRACK which assists disadvantaged youth.

Fittler, Tedesco and the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues extended squad today visited RuffTRACK farm in Riverstone, northwest of Sydney, for a community event which included catching up with the Blues official mascot, Bruce the Blue Healer.

The trip was made after the extended squad trained for the first time in the morning at Coogee Oval as the preparations got underway on the field for Game One at Accor Stadium in Sydney on Wednesday 8 June.

“I’ve always been an advocate for helping our young people realise their potential and RuffTRACK has done great work in helping teenagers reconnect with the community,” Fittler said.

“This is a great opportunity for all our passionate supporters to own a slice of Origin history and all the money raised will help make a difference for the kids who need it.”

Tedesco said: “The Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues have always had a strong connection with local communities across NSW and the team never hesitates to help out where we can.

“Every player who pulls on a sky blue jersey does so with pride and I ask our fans to throw their support behind this great cause.”

RuffTRACK works in conjunction with Hawkesbury police and BackTrack Youth Works to help young people (12-17) who are disengaged with school and the community to provide them with skills, education and a sense of self-worth.

The young people bond with a dog in their first days which helps them learn responsibility, care for others and communicate without violence. Bruce the Blue Healer has been a resident of RuffTRACK since coming on as the Blues mascot in 2020.

The funds raised by the Brydens Lawyers NSW Blues will help provide a new vehicle that can be used so the youth can continue to assist the local community, as they recently did following the severe wet weather that devastated northern NSW.

This is not the first time players have donated their jerseys for a worthy cause after they auctioned them off following Game Three in 2019 to raise money for a family who lost three children in a tragic house fire in the NSW Hunter Valley.

Fittler, Tedesco and other True Blues including Damien Cook, Boyd Cordner, Cameron Murray and James Roberts visited victims of the catastrophic bushfires that ravaged northern NSW at the end of 2019. Other players including Nathan Cleary, Murray and Mitchell Pearce later auctioned some of their jerseys online to also help raise money.

PLEASE NOTE: Details of the auction will be revealed at a later date.
