The ‘Bluebags’ will be known as the Purple Legs on Saturday.

Newtown Jets players will wear purple socks against the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup match at Henson Park on Saturday (1 April) to raise awareness of pancreatic cancer.

The disease claimed the life of the Jets top points scorer, former halfback from the 1970s-80s, Ken Wilson, who died in December last year.

Saturday’s Round Five game – the first home game for 2023 - is dedicated to both Wilson and PanKind, the Australian Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, with money raised going towards increasing survival rates and quality of life for those impacted by the illness.

Members of Wilson’s family will lead both NSW Cup teams onto the field – with the Jets wearing the colourful socks as part of PanKind’s #PlayinPurple campaign.

It is into its ninth year and will be held across three more weekends for all grades in July.

At half-time in the Jets-Bulldogs game, a ‘Kick for Kenny’ competition will be held for members of the public to come onto Henson Park and boot the ball downfield or between the uprights, with all winners getting a signed Newtown Jets football.

Wilson kicked 447 goals and 32 field goals as part of his 1,001 points for the Jets across 150 games.
