Sky Blues players in the hunt for NRLW Dally M Medal

Six members of the 2023 Harvey Norman Sky Blues squad are in the top-10 list for the NRLW Dally M Medal, when voting went behind closed doors following Round four action last weekend.

Off the back of 45 tackles (missing none), 197 run metres, four tackle-busts and a fine solo try in the Raiders 19-18 win over the Dragons in Wollongong, Simaima Taufa earned the maximum six points from selectors.

That now puts her four points clear on the Dally M leader board from joint second-placegetters (11 points) Zahara Temara, her Raiders teammate, and fellow NSW Origin forward Sarah Togatuki (Wests Tigers).

Other Sky Blues squad members Dragons fullback Teagan Berry (nine points), Roosters centre Isabelle Kelly (eight), Sharks five-eighth Emma Tonegato and Knights second rower Yasmin Clydsdale (seven each) round out the top-10.

There are five rounds left in the NRLW competition, where voting will continue, before the Semi-finals on 23-24 September and Grand Final on Sunday 1 October.

The women’s Dally M Player of the Year award was introduced in 2015, or three years before the first NRLW season in 2018.

In those eight years, five Sky Blues players have won the honour: 2016 Kezie Apps, 2017 Simaima Taufa, 2019 Jess Sergis (pictured above), 2021 Tonegato-Millie Boyle (joint winners).

This year’s winner will be named alongside the NRL Dally M Medal recipient at the annual awards night on Wednesday 27 September.
