The Kandos Waratahs and Blackheath Blackcats Open Men's and Blues Tag captains with the time-honoured Blayney Cup and Mid West Blues Tag trophy

It's been a short and sharp Mid West Community Cup competition, and after an enthralling three rounds, the winners will be decided on Saturday as Carcoar Sportsground hosts two Grand Finals and two third-placed play-offs.

As fate would have it, the Kandos Waratahs and Blackheath Blackcats will do battle for both the Blayney Cup, which is awarded to the winner of the Open Men's tackle competition, and the Mid West Tag Trophy, which will be handed to the winning captain of the Blues Tag Grand Final.

In the Open Men's competition, the top-of-the-table Blackcats appear to be the team to beat on paper.

Blackheath came out in Round One and put reigning premiers Carcoar to the sword, winning 58-12, before recording a dominant 38-12 win over the Portland Colts in Round Two.

Taking on the Waratahs in Kandos on Saturday, Blackheath won a closely-fought contest, defeating the home side 32-26 to set up a tantalising Grand Final on Saturday.

While disappointed to lose, Kandos now know they can compete with the Blackheath juggernaut.

The Waratahs' road to the final was very different to their rivals, as they never had an easy win. They edged Portland 26-20 in Round One before their come-from-behind victory over Carcoar in Round Two.

Saturday's six-point loss to Blackheath should motivate Kandos to go one better in Saturday's Grand Final, but still, it's anyone's game.

It was a different story in the Blues Tag competition, with a frantic finish resulting in three teams being tied on four competition points following the three regular season rounds.

At the end of the day, for-and-against proved the difference as Kandos defeated Blackheath 28-16 to claim the Minor Premiership.

Despite the loss, the Blackcats held on to second position and will play in the decider, while Carcoar is the odd team out, finishing in third position despite registering a 22-16 win over Portland in Round Three.

In what will be a great way to finish off the Mid West Community Cup, all four clubs will play on the day, and in the third and fourth-placed play-offs, the Carcoar Crows and Portland Colts will meet in both the Open Men's tackle and Blues Tag deciders.

It's set to be a big day at Carcoar, with the canteen and bar in operation, and the entry fee only $5.
