The NSWRL was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Ron Sigsworth, aged 63.
Ron, the brother of True Blue Phil Sigsworth, was born in Sydney and played for the Newtown Jets and South Sydney Rabbitohs before heading to England to ply for Castleford Tigers.
A fullback or centre, he made his first-grade debut for the Jets in 1982 and would go on to score four tries from six games that season.
He played 19 games for the Jets in 1983 in their final season in the top grade and had the distinction of scoring the club’s last ever try at Henson Park.
He moved from the Jets to the Raiders in 1984 and made 13 appearances and scored three tries in his only season at the club.
He headed to England for a two-year stint at Castleford, losing a Challenge Cup Semi-final to Hull FC after a draw and a replay, before returning home to finish his career in reserve grade at South Sydney apart from a first-grade appearance in a Midweek Cup game.
Following his retirement, Ron was involved as a pathways coach at Souths Juniors and was also a long-serving member of the NSWRL judiciary.
The NSWRL passes its sincere condolences on to his many family and friends.
