Griffith hosting disability footy match this weekend

A game of touch footy showcasing two Physical Disability teams will take place at the Griffith Ex-Servicemen’s Sports Club Oval on Sunday for the first time in Group 20 competition.

The game between the Storm and the Raiders will be the curtain-raiser for the Round Four First Grade match between Griffith Waratah Tigers and the Leeton Galloping Greens.

“Disability Rugby League gets to showcase just how much these players enjoy being part of the greatest game of all,” NSWRL Community Rugby League Manager Peter Clarke said.

“This is the first time an event like this has been arranged, and who knows, from small things, big things grow.

“We are expecting it to be a great success and it’s something that could become an annual celebration, or even part of a gala day for people with disabilities from across the Riverina to attend with their families and carers,” he said.

“It would be a good thing for the Group 20 area if Sunday’s GPSO (Griffith Post School Options) disability touch football game has a flow-on effect.”

Kick-off is at 2pm at Exies Oval with the Griffith-Leeton game starting at 2.30pm.

There are medals for both players and carers to be awarded at the end of the match.
