The NSWRL was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Fred Strutt, aged 85.

A former five-eighth and lock, Strutt began his Rugby League career with St George Dragons in 1960, from where he played his junior football, and in Inverell in 1961 and 1962. He played for Country Firsts in 1961 and captained Country Seconds in 1962.

Strutt returned to Sydney to join Eastern Suburbs in 1963 where he played 15 games. He returned to the country the following year and was selected to captain the 1964 Country Firsts team against City but was ruled out due to a bruised kidney. Strutt also represented Riverina against the touring French team in 1964 and Southern Division against the touring New Zealand team in 1967. His son, Darren Strutt, played for the Illawarra Steelers in the NSWRL in 1988.

The NSWRL passes on its sincere condolences to the many friends and family of Fred Strutt.
