NSWRL to celebrate Licensed Clubs Round

The NSWRL will celebrate its fourth annual Licensed Clubs Round (26-27 July) with a Magic Round on Saturday 26 July involving four games from the Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup to acknowledge the $85 million contribution clubs made to the game last season.

NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said it was important to acknowledge the crucial role that licensed clubs play for the game.

As well as providing $85 million in funding, more than 100 Leagues Clubs Australia members throughout NSW also assisted the game by supplying thousands of playing kits, upgrading playing surfaces and supporting both female and pathways Rugby League.

“The NSWRL is proud to host Licensed Clubs Round to pay tribute to the wonderful work that clubs contribute to Rugby League every season,” Trodden said.

“With the cost of living increasing every year, licensed clubs are taking a proactive approach through subsidies and other initiatives to keep families involved with our great game.

“I urge all Rugby League fans to show support for their local club throughout the season to acknowledge the great work they do and wish all teams good luck competing at the Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup ‘Magic Round’.”

Leagues Clubs Australia Chief Executive Officer Don Hammond said Rugby League provided licensed clubs with a platform to assist the community.

“Licensed clubs are the backbone of grassroots Rugby League – funding junior development, expanding player pathways, and championing the women’s and girls’ game,” Hammond said.

“Their support nurtures not just future athletes, but future leaders by instilling the values of teamwork, respect, and community. This is where the spirit of Rugby League truly begins.”

A snapshot of some of the support Licensed Clubs provided for the game in 2024 includes:

- Canterbury Leagues Club contributing $7.55 million this season for Rugby League, including subsidized registration for juniors, player insurance, referee fees, ground hire, presentations and trophies, trainers' apparel, and pathway programs;

- Wests Group Macarthur increasing their funding commitment from $350,000 to $400,000 per season which helps families save $60 per Junior Rugby League participant.

The ‘Magic Round’ games will feature four games from the Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup to be played at St Marys Leagues Stadium on Saturday 26 July.

The first match will feature Premiers Glebe Dirty Reds against Blacktown Workers, followed by Brothers Penrith v Hills Bulls, last year’s Grand Finalists Wenty Magpies v Mounties, while the day will conclude with St Marys Saints v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs.

Fans attending the day are encouraged to take advantage of the ‘Heartbeat of Sport’ initiative that will be launched on the day to provide vital heart health awareness information.

There will be a marquee set up at the ground with two registered nurses to carry out on-the-spot heart screening sessions.

In a further boost, fans will be able to watch the action from all four Saturday matches on NSWRL TV on BarTV Sports.

Tickets are available at the gate and start as little as $10 for adults while pensioners and children aged 12 years and under are free.
