Former livewire fullback signs with Rabbitohs

Matt Dufty will feature in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup this season with the former St George Illawarra Dragons and Warrington Wolves fullback returning to Australia to play for the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

The Rabbitohs have announced their NSW Cup pre-season squad which includes Dufty, who proved to be handful for opposition defences during his previous stints at the Dragons (2017-21) and Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs (2022).

He scored 44 tries for the Dragons, with arguably his best effort coming in an Anzac Day game against the Sydney Roosters at the SCG in 2019 where he stated a run from 35 metres out and mesmerised the defence on his way to the line.

Dufty, who began to rise through the NSWRL system before making his NRL debut with the Dragons, enjoyed a strong professional career highlighted by his speed, support plays and try-scoring abilities from the back.

He was granted an early release from the Bulldogs in 2022 to take up an offer from Warrington where he scored 47 tries from 88 games.

His signing is a significant coup for The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, reinforcing the competition’s reputation as a breeding ground for rising talent and a valuable pathway for established players looking to compete at the highest level and earn a NRL return.
