NSWRL is on track to surpass 120,000 participants for consecutive seasons as the 2026 Community Rugby League season prepares to kick-off tomorrow (Saturday 11 April), with competitions to run across 25 areas in metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW.
The NSWRL broke participation records for the third consecutive season in 2025 with 122,430 total participants signing up to play the Game for All (a 4.1 per cent increase from 117,557 in 2024).
Male participants reached 89,124 (a 1.7 per cent increase from 87,124 in 2024), while female participants, which accounted for 27 per cent of total participants, finished at 33,306 (an 11 per cent increase from 29,965 in 2024).
The early figures are just as encouraging for the 2026 season with registrations not cutting off until June 30.
Licensed Clubs across NSW are playing a significant role in providing subsidies to help ease the financial pressures on families.
“NSWRL is grateful for the support Licensed Clubs continue to provide which assists with the costs for registration, insurance, playing kits and equipment to keep our players on the field," NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said.
“There is always plenty of excitement around the start of the Community Rugby League season as it is truly the Game for All regardless of age, background or ability.
“Rugby League helps to build lifelong friendships, teaches resilience, and the importance of being part of and contributing to a team.
“NSWRL is extremely proud of the work that has been done to break participation records on a yearly basis, and the signs are positive again for 2026.
“Rugby League offers plenty of ways to get involved, whether as a player, a coach, an official or a volunteer, and I encourage everyone to reach out to their local club and be part of what is already shaping up to be another tremendous season.”
