The NSW Rugby League Board has today endorsed the appointment of True Blue and former captain Boyd Cordner to an assistant coach role with the 2026 Westpac NSW Blues.
Cordner, 33, a member of the Westpac NSW Blues off-field staff as a Blue Shirt trainer in 2024-25, will replace Dean Young who stood down as defensive coach this week to focus on his new role as St George Illawarra Dragons NRL Interim Head Coach.
Cordner, a former Sydney Roosters NRL Assistant Coach who currently coaches the Roosters UNE SG Ball Cup (Under 19s) side and is a member of the Roosters High Performance staff, played 16 games for NSW and was captain for the 2018-19 State of Origin series wins.
Cordner said: “It is such a great honour and I am so excited about the opportunity to step into the role.
“I will put everything I’ve got into it. I have been in and around it learning off the coaches and I’ve been a player in this arena so I understand what it takes.”
Westpac NSW Blues Coach Laurie Daley said: “Boyd has been a highly valuable member of the coaching staff the past couple of years and the players have a lot of respect for him.
“He has been forging his reputation as a coach in his own right and I am confident he will do a great job.”
