Eight months ago, Millie Elliott was welcoming her daughter Gigi into the world. Tonight, she will return to one of Rugby League’s fiercest arenas, pulling the Westpac NSW Blues jersey back on for Game One of the 2026 Ampol Women’s State of Origin Series.
Having last featured at the top level in 2024, the experienced forward has taken on the challenge of rebuilding her body, mind and match fitness in a major boost for the Blues’ middle rotation.
Her comeback not only reflects her relentless work ethic and determination to return to the game, but it also highlights the continued evolution of the women’s game as athletes are supported to step away for motherhood and return without compromising their careers.
Westpac NSW Blues squad member Corban Baxter, who is also a mum and has been through a similar journey, said Elliott’s return was no surprise.
“I had no doubt that Millie was going to come back and get back into this team,” Blues veteran Corban Baxter said.
“She is such a hard worker and literally fits straight back in like she never left.
“She is going to be even stronger after having little Gigi and I am so excited to see her back in blue.
“It is so inspiring.”
Baxter has formed a unique bond with Elliott, built on shared experience and understanding.
“We do have chats about what it is like coming back and we learn from each other,” Baxter said.
“It is really nice to have another mum in our group so we can talk about motherhood and balancing that with footy.”
That connection adds another layer to what is already an exciting squad, with Baxter describing the 2026 group as one of the strongest she has been a part of.
“This is such an exciting group, there is just strike everywhere,” She said.
“It is definitely the most elite team that I have been involved with, and I have played with some really great players.
“I would hate to be Queensland trying to plan against our side.”
