Bears clinical in Round 10 bounce back

Game Summary

North Sydney Bears delivered a dominant second-half performance to run out 46-10 winners over Parramatta Eels in Round 10 of The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup at Kellyville, bouncing back emphatically after last week's heartbreaking defeat.

The Bears had a bright start with centre Kieran Hayman finishing off a slick team move after five-eighth Harradyn Wilson threw a perfectly timed pass to send his teammate over. Hayman converted to give the Bears a 6-0 lead.

North Sydney struck again just moments later when fullback Tui Katoa leapt acrobatically in the corner to finish off another incisive attacking sequence, and the Bears led 10-0 after 20 minutes.

Parramatta finally got on the board when prop Teancum Brown juggled the ball over the line in the shadow of the posts, before Apa Twidale reducing the deficit to 10-4.

The Bears extended their lead to 14-6 when winger Matt Stimson finished in broken play off the back of a Jake Toby break, before Hayman converted from the touchline to make it 16-6. Mohammed Alameddine hit back for Parramatta in the final minute of the half, with Twidle's conversion attempt falling short to leave the score 16-10 at half-time.

The second half belonged entirely to North Sydney. Hayman crossed for his second of the evening early in the half with another excellent finish, this time set up by a stunning flick pass from Wilson, to push the lead out to 22-10 and effectively end Parramatta's hopes.

Dummy-half Josh Cook burrowed over from close range before Abiarthur Toi Tuilaepa produced a try of the year contender, taking a difficult catch on the run to score in the corner and give North Sydney an unassailable 38-10 lead.

Tom Steadman rounded out the scoring in the dying moments to complete a comprehensive 46-10 victory.

Talking Points

Jake Toby was the Bears' standout performer, constantly probing Parramatta's defence with his footwork and offloading game, and having a hand in multiple tries.

Kieran Hayman was superb throughout, finishing the day with two tries and seven goals from eight attempts for a personal haul of 22 points.

The Bears' defence, already the best in the competition, was tested at times but held firm when it mattered in the first half. Their ability to absorb pressure and then quickly switch into attack is a hallmark of the North Sydney side this year.

Key Moment

Hayman's second try six minutes into the second half was the decisive moment. Set up by Wilson's brilliant flick pass, it pushed the lead to 22-10 and deflated any remaining belief Parramatta had carried into the break. From that point, the Bears were unstoppable.

What's Next?

The Bears return home in Round 10 for the Beer, Footy, Food Festival at North Sydney Oval, where they face the Sydney Roosters on Saturday at 4pm. The Eels take on St George Illawarra Dragons on Sunday at 3 pm.
