NSWRL's Licensed Clubs Round to celebrate fifth year

Mounties will draw on their recent training session against the Westpac NSW Blues when they take on Brothers Penrith as part of the Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup Magic Round to help celebrate Licensed Clubs Round on Saturday 20 June.

Now entering its fifth season, Licensed Clubs Round acknowledges the vital contribution more than 100 Leagues Clubs Australia members make to the game every season, including $85 million worth of funding which is used to assist with the purchase of playing kits, surface upgrades, and supporting pathways and women’s Rugby League.

“The support that our Licensed Clubs continue to show to Rugby League is pivotal to its ongoing success,” NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said.

“We have broken the record for participation numbers again for a fourth consecutive season and Licensed Clubs across NSW have contributed to that success by providing financial assistance, including subsidies for registration and insurance.

“Licensed Clubs Round provides fans with an opportunity to thank their local club for their support every season and I urge everyone to get behind it and show your appreciation.”

Leagues Clubs Australia Chief Executive Officer Don Hammond said licensed clubs were the lifeblood of junior Rugby League.

“The LCA want to thank the NSWRL for the ongoing support of this initiative and for showcasing the support licensed clubs throughout NSW give back to the game of Rugby League and community as a whole,” Hammond said.

Licensed Clubs Round will culminate with a Magic Round of the Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup at St Marys Leagues Stadium, which will feature all five games from Round 11 with the first match kicking off at 11am and the final match at 7pm.

Mounties will have the honour of playing the final game against Brothers, and they recently fine-tuned their preparation with a training session against the Westpac NSW Blues on the Central Coast. The two teams met in Round Three in April with Mounties walking off with a 28-18 win.

The day will kick off with Glebe Dirty Reds against Hills Bulls, followed by Blacktown Workers against Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs, premiers St Marys Saints against Ryde-Eastwood Hawks, Wenty Magpies against Manly Leagues and conclude with Mounties against Brothers.

Fans attending the day are encouraged to take advantage of the ‘Heartbeat of Sport’ initiative that will provide important heart health awareness information. There will be a marquee set up with two registered nurses to carry out on-the-spot heart screening sessions.

In a further boost, fans will be able to watch the action from all five matches on NSWRL TV on BarTV Sports. Click the link for more information.
