Roosters hit half-century to bring up back-to-back wins

Game Summary

Sydney Roosters produced a dominant display at Wentworth Park in Round 19 of The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, defeating the Parramatta Eels 50-12 to move to 22 competition points and stay in the finals race.

The Roosters were electric from the outset scoring four tries inside the opening 16 minutes to race to a 22-nil lead. Centre Brooklyn Heath opened their account off a floated pass from Reece Foley, before Owen Flaherty sprinted clear on the left edge to score minutes later.

Rex Bassingthwaighte then produced a sensational pass around the corner to set up another, before Heath capped off his first-half hat-trick with long-range kick return.

Parramatta were starved of the ball throughout the opening 40 minutes. The visitors registered their first points just two minutes before half-time, when debutant Lincoln Fletcher crossed to make it 26-6 at the break.

The Roosters picked up where they left off after half-time, with Darcy Smith dotting down twice to extend the margin beyond 30 points. Bassingthwaighte then injected himself into the contest at the right moment, setting up Smith's second try with a piercing line-break before crossing himself late in the contest. By the time the final siren sounded, the Roosters had tallied 50 points in a comprehensive victory.

Another Eels bright spot came from Devonte Vaivela, who produced an acrobatic finish in the corner for the Eels' second try, rounding out the 50-12 final score.

Talking Points

Brooklyn Heath was hard to contain on the right edge, finishing with a hat-trick in just his third NSW Cup appearance. His blistering pace exposed the Eels' defence repeatedly and his performance will have first-grade selectors taking notice.

Toby Rodwell controlled the game well. The 20-year-old's kicking game was exceptional all afternoon, consistently pinning Parramatta deep in their own half and allowing the Roosters' defensive line to do the rest.

Key Moment

The third try of the match - scored by Flaherty after a stunning pass from Bassingthwaighte around the corner - effectively ended the contest inside 10 minutes. By that time the Roosters led 16-nil, with Parramatta barely having possession in the opposition half.

What's Next?

The Roosters face Melbourne Storm on Friday night in Round 20, while the Eels head into the bye before their Round 21 clash with the ladder-leading Penrith Panthers.
