North Sydney Bears delivered a convincing win in Round 21 of The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup, defeating St George Illawarra Dragons 42-20 at North Sydney Oval on Sunday.
The Bears opened the scoring when a Thomas Steadman 40/20set up a close-range attack, then Jake Toby's sharp play out the back created an overlap for Ethyn Martin to finish in the left corner. Kieran Hayman converted to make it 6-nil.
The lead was quickly doubled when Steadman produced a perfectly weighted cross-kick to Matt Komolafe, who out-jumped Christian Tuipulotu to score. Hayman converted again to push the margin out to 12-nil.
The Bears continued to punish the Dragons down the left edge, with Hayman himself bursting through a gap to set up Harradyn Wilson for a try just before half-time. Despite the Dragons rallying through a Tuipulotu try in the closing stages of the half, North Sydney crossed for a third try in that period to lead 22-4 at the break.
Martin completed a hat-trick early in the second half exploiting the left edge with a sidestep to beat the fullback and dot down in front of the members stand, then Jake Toby followed up with a try of his own. Moses Suli crossed for the Dragons soon after to make the scoreline a more respectable 34-10.
Jake Toby then produced arguably the try of the match, breaking through the line and finishing to complete his double. Hayman slotted the conversion, then later added a two-point field goal in the final minute to round out the 42-20 win.

The left edge was strong all afternoon for the Bears. Jake Toby, back from injury at fullback, combined brilliantly with Kieran Hayman and Ethyn Martin to repeatedly slice open the Dragons' defence.
