NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden has announced the appointment of former premiership player and coach Andrew Farrar to the role of NSW VB Blues Team Manager for this year’s State of Origin series.
Farrar, who played seven matches for the Blues between 1984 and 1990, will be one of coach Laurie Daley’s key staff through this year’s campaign.
“Andrew brings a background which is across the whole spectrum of the game,” Mr Trodden said.
“He’s a three-time premiership-winning player, has represented his country, but more importantly for us he played in a successful State of Origin era. He understands both the culture of the Blues and the culture of success.
“His first grade coaching background also gives him an insight into how strong off-field foundations can lead to on-field success.”
During a distinguished playing career, Mr Farrar played for the Canterbury Bulldogs, Western Suburbs, Illawarra and Wigan. He was also coach of Illawarra and St George Illawarra.
“He’s a guy who has been around the game for a long time, he’s well-respected, and he’s been successful on and off the field,” NSW VB Blues coach Laurie Daley said.
“He’s been around a lot of teams, and he knows what’s involved in successful outfits. He’ll bring a lot to the table.”
Mr Farrar, who has been working with senior teams for more than 30 years, said he was excited to be involved with the Blues this year.
“I’ve known Laurie for a long time, and this was too good an opportunity to miss,” he said.
“I’ve been around footy for an extended period, as a player and as a coach, and over the last six years as a director.
“This is one of those things you don’t apply for; you get asked to do. From what I have witnessed, both Laurie and David are doing a fantastic job in attempting to create a successful environment. In regards to the State of Origin Unit, my job will be to help ensure that environment is replicated in camp with the Blues.”
