Tickets are now on sale for the 2015 Holden State of Origin game to be played at Melbourne’s iconic MCG.
“After NSW claimed a 2-1 win in this year’s series, ending QLD’s eight-year dominance, the appetite for Origin is at an all-time high,” NRL Head of Commercial, Mr Paul Kind said.
“Sport loving Victorians can be much divided and very clear about their passion for NSW or QLD and State of Origin is recognised as one of the fiercest rivalries in sport.
“At present there appears to a ground swell of support for the Maroons with 30%of ticket purchasers to date selecting Queensland Supporters section.
“We just might be looking at one of the largest Maroons supporter groups of out the northern state ever,” Kind said.
The match is scheduled for Wednesday, 17 June 2015 and will be the first time Origin has been played at the MCG in 18 years.
Victorian Minister for Sport and Recreation, the Hon Damian Drum MLC, said that Origin matches have traditionally been popular in Melbourne and he expected tickets for the match to sell quickly.
"State of Origin is a truly major event and this game will attract tens of thousands of Rugby League fans from two of our key interstate markets and deliver significant economic benefits for the State.”
