VB NSW Cup sides have begun pre-season trial matches ahead of the season proper which kicks-off on Saturday, March 7.
On Friday, the Wests Tigers went down to Wentworthville at Kirkham Oval but Tigers coach Paul Fletcher wasn't too worried.
"In trials, the results aren’t important. It’s about having a hit-out, putting in new structures and I’m more than happy with the effort," Fletcher said.
"I was really impressed with the young guys – we had 10 kids from the 20s… a few really put their hands up. There’s so much talent here, it’s good."
A main talking point out of the first week of trials was the return of former Canberra Raider Blake Ferguson. The rangy centre turned out for Wyong Roos and scored two tries in his comeback. His side, however, were dominated by last year's premiers, Penrith.
