The NSW VB Blues will call Leichhardt Oval home in the lead-up to Origin II at Sydney’s ANZ Stadium on 21 June.
Laurie Daley’s side will use the iconic Rugby League venue as the training base when they set-up camp ahead of the only game of the 2017 Holden State of Origin series in NSW.
The partnership between NSWRL and Inner West Council will see the VB Blues utilise the facilities at Leichardt Oval as well as the nearby Leichhardt Aquatic Centre.
NSW Rugby League CEO David Trodden said: “Leichhardt Oval is an iconic Rugby League venue and we are thrilled to call it home ahead of Game Two at ANZ Stadium on 21 June.
“The excellent surface and facilities will allow the NSW VB Blues to prepare for the game as best as possible.”
Inner West Council Administrator Richard Pearson said that Leichhardt Oval holds a special place in the history of Rugby League.
“It remains the most played on Australian professional Rugby League ground still in use today,” Pearson said.
“Council is excited that the NSWRL has selected Leichhardt Oval as the VB Blues’ training base next month.
“We’re also very happy to be working with NSWRL to organise a training day for local primary school students to meet and train with their League heroes.”
The VB Blues have trained at Leichhardt Oval previously, having used the venue in the lead-up to Origin III last year.
