Competition - State Of Origin
Round - Game One
Teams – New South Wales v Queensland
Date – 1st of June 2016
Venue – ANZ Stadium

The NSW VB Blues have received a major boost on the eve of Holden State of Origin Game Two with a sell-out section of 12,000 Star Blatchys Blues set to throw their support behind the team at ANZ Stadium tomorrow night.

And in an Australian sporting first, the country’s largest and most passionate supporter group, The Star Blatchys Blues, will have an in-game experience like never before with their innovative new Blatchys Blues SMARTWiG, exclusive to Blatchys ticket holders.

The Star has given the humble iconic blue wig a supercharged upgrade with an LED antenna to light up when the lights go down and an in-built headphone connecting wearers to SMARTWiG radio.

While Blatchys tickets have sold out, limited tickets are available for the match, including those in the bronze $87 category. A crowd of more than 80,000 is expected at ANZ Stadium on the night, and supporters are encouraged to arrive early for the entertainment which begins from 7.30pm AEST.

NSW VB Blues coach Laurie Daley said: “We’re so excited to have 12,000 of our most passionate fans behind us.

“I know it really lifts the boys. When they run out onto the field, they are not only playing for their families but to restore pride in the New South Wales colours and to unite the state.”

NSWRL Head of Commercial, Jodie Cross, said: “We are really proud to be able to give our fans a unique and special experience; the first time any Australian sport has been able to implement an activation like this.

“It’s something you can’t get in your lounge room. It’s a Blatchys Blues exclusive benefit; and you have to be at the game to experience it.”

The in-built radio will deliver SMARTWiG wearers with six hours of customised radio programming including Triple M’s expert commentary and live call of the on-field action during the game.

Before kick-off Blues legends Nathan Hindmarsh and Bryan Fletcher will talk to past NSW legends and take listeners into the NSW sheds to hear from coach Daley.

“Hindy and Fletch” will also speak directly to the Blatchys via the SMARTWiG throughout the game, ensuring the Blatchys Blues are one of the most coordinated supporter groups, by moving, chanting and cheering as one.

The campaign, an idea created by The Star, has been made possible through a unique partnership involving The Star Sydney, NRL, NSWRL and Triple M.
