Jarryd Hayne announced his return to the Origin arena in emphatic style in Game One, crossing for a game-defining try and embracing the Blatchys Blues in an act reminiscent to the series-winning moment of 2014.
Churning out impressive numbers with ball in hand, Hayne’s involvement and willingness throughout the 2017 Origin series couldn’t be questioned.
Headline Moment: “Hayne Equals The Blues’ Best”
Running in a four-pointer in Game Two, Hayne equalled Michael O’Connor’s NSW try-scoring record of 11 tries in the Origin arena.
On the back of a try in Game One, Hayne joined the Blues’ icon with his effort to send NSW to the front in the first-half of Origin II.
Hayne’s place in the NSW fold beyond 2017 remains to be seen, though if the versatile back is playing near his best at club level, remains every hope of adding to his tally of 23 Origin games.
If Hayne is to feature in all Origin matches in 2018, the incumbent centre will move to outright third on the list of all-time NSW Origin caps (26), behind only Brad Fittler (31) and Andrew Ettingshausen (27) respectively.
Equalling O’Connor’s try-scoring feats in the 2017 series, Hayne also joined coach Laurie Daley and Blues legend Andrew Johns with 23 NSW appearances.
