Bold call pays off for Tigers
Down by two points in a tight, low-scoring contest, the Balmain Tigers received a penalty with only a few minutes left on the clock. They had an opportunity to equalise with a penalty goal but turned it down for the chance of victory despite having a man in the sin bin. The would-be goal-kicker, Zane Camroux, scored a try to take the lead and win, proving the decision to go for victory instead of a draw was a good one.
Emily Curtain puts on shot of the year
17-year-old Tarsha Gale Cup player Emily Curtain shook Campbelltown Stadium with one of the biggest hits of the season when the Wests Tigers hosted the Newcastle Knights.
The Knights ended up winning 28-10.
Fenning scores 20
The North Sydney Bears picked up their first win of the season in the SG Ball earlier today and Corey Fenning had a day out to remember. The Bears beat the West Coast Pirates 52-12 and Fenning scored 20 of their points. A try in the 24th minute to go with his eight goals was his tally for the afternoon in a win that the Bears hope will kick start their season.
Three hat-tricks in one game
The Manly Warringah Sea Eagles scored 58 points earlier today, but quite remarkably there were only four try-scorers. In their 58-10 thumping of North Sydney in the Harold Matthews Cup, Oliver Cummins, Oscar Palin and Zion Paulo all picked up three tries each.
