The Canterbury Cup NSW competition is rapidly approaching and True Blue and Channel Nine commentator Jamie Soward have cast his eye over all 12 teams for nswrl.com.au to find the winner for 2019.

They haven't made the finals since 2014 but Jamie Soward believes that drought is set to end for the Newcastle Knights with a fifth-place finish in 2019.

After finishing last year in 12th place having won just five games, Soward believes the key additions in Mason Lino and Zac Woolford will provide a significant boost to their attack and a wealth of experience at key stages throughout the season.

Their lacklustre defence may the only worry for the Knights heading into the new Canterbury Cup NSW campaign but a more talented roster will ensure a fitting finish at the back end of the season.

"New coach Rory Kostjayson has got a nice squad with depth now, especially in the forwards and outside-backs," Soward told NSWRL.com.au.

"I think the NRL squad will filter down, they will have guys come in and out of form, coming back from injuries and I think they will be the real big movers in 2019."
