Tour de Parkes: France RL head to the Central West

The French Rugby League team is set to engage in a series of community events as the Chanticleers promote the international game to regional and rural areas ahead of their showdown with the Western Rams under lights on Wednesday 30 October at Jock Colley Field, Parkes.

Landing in the Central West this Sunday 27 October, there will be numerous opportunities to meet the French team. The Chanticleers announced a jam packed promotional schedule including visits to Peak Hill, Trundle, Forbes, Manildra, junior gala day during their four day stop in Parkes.

"We are grateful for the opportunity to experience rural Australia and rekindle our relationship with Western Division Rugby League," said Chanticleers coach Aurélien Cologni.

“I'd like to thank everyone who has helped make the event possible; I’m sure the game on 30 October at Parkes will be one to remember,”

“We look forward to entertaining fans, learning about life in Country New South Wales and sharing our culture to ensure we continue the legacy our predecessors founded.”

Before embarking on their trip inland, the Chanticleers will take on a formidable Junior Kangaroos team at Wollongong this Friday night.

The first public appearance in Western Rams territory will be at Lindner Oval Peak Hill this Sunday 27 October at 2.15pm. 

Parkes Shire Mayor Councillor Ken Keith OAM officially welcomes the squad on Sunday at a civic reception conducted at Parkes League’s Club.

 

France v Western schedule Community Events:

Sunday 27 October

2.00pm - Western Rams assemble for final training session on Jock Colley Field, Parkes

2.15pm - French team joins the Peak Hill Roosters pen visiting Lindner Oval, Peak Hill for a family and community event with a series of novelty activities and a community BBQ.

4.30pm - Parkes Mayor Ken Keith officially welcomes the Chanticleers to Parkes Shire at Parkes League's Club with a civic reception. This event will be attended by the Western Rams and French players.

 

Monday 28 October

9.45am to 10.30am - French players and join language and cooking classes at Red Bend Catholic College Forbes – Media Contact

10.30am to 11.45am - French team trains at Red Bend College with an opposed session involving red Bend students

2.15pm to 3.00pm - French players engage in cultural presentation at primary schools around Parkes

3.30pm - French RL players and staff visit the Parkes Observatory Centre

5.30pm - Bonjour Trundle! Woodbridge Cup Premiers Trundle Boomers host a nearest to the pin shootout at Trundle Golf Club involving several French RL players.

 

Tuesday 29 October

9.30am - 10.30am: French players continue their cultural engagement taking their cooking and linguistic skills to Parkes High School

10.30am - 12.00pm: French players help coach at the NRL Development small schools Rugby League gala day at Jock Colley Field.

12.15pm – French team lunch at Parkes RSL (members and guests welcome to mingle)

4.00pm - Bonjour Manildra! Public are invited to Twisted River wines as French taste local award winning drops produced at the Manildra vineyard Twisted River.

7.00pm - 7.45pm - French team finalises preparations to square off with Western Division with an open training session and captains run on Jock Colley Field, Parkes.

 

Wednesday 30 October – Game day

10.00am - Currajong Disability Services host a morning tea at Lions Park, Parkes

3.30pm - Gates open - Pioneer Oval Alexander Street, admission $10 adults, $5 pensioners, 15 years and under gold coin donation.

3.55pm - Woodbridge v Wiradjuri Goannas under 15s - Western Women's Rugby League

4.55pm - Orange Vipers v Wiradjuri Goannas Opens - Western Women's Rugby League

6.10pm - Junior League games – Parkes Marist Blue v Parkes Marist Red

6.53pm - Parkes Community Choir to perform National Anthems

7.00pm - Kick-off Western Rams v France

7.45pm – HT – Parkes Marist minis v Red Bend minis

8.45pm – Approx. Presentation of Trophy to winning team and Steve “Bear” Hall Memorial medal for man of the match
