Castlereagh League wrap | Table-topping showdown for Boronia Cup

A top-of-the-table showdown is set to shape the race for the 2026 Christie and Hood Castlereagh League minor premiership when the Cobar Roosters host the Coonabarabran Unicorns in the battle for the Boronia Cup on Saturday.

The clash at Tom Knight Memorial Oval sees the two competition heavyweights locked on 34 competition points, with both sides suffering only one defeat this season.

The Unicorns only loss came at the hands of the Cobar Roosters (20-16) in Round Three, while the Roosters were beaten 18-10 by the Coolah Kangaroos in Round 10.

With just one round remaining after Saturday’s clash, victory would put either side in the box seat to claim the minor premiership, although the race is expected to go down to the final weekend with the Roosters travelling down to Narromine to face the Jets and the Unicorns meeting the Kangaroos.

Both teams head into Saturday’s clash in impressive form after commanding wins last weekend. The Roosters dominated the Gilgandra Panthers 60-0, while the Unicorns powered past the Narromine Jets 54-16.

Elsewhere, the Dunedoo Swans’ hard-fought 30-24 victory over the Gulgong Bull Terriers officially ended the Terriers’ finals hopes, with the five teams to contest the finals now confirmed. However, the finishing order remains undecided heading into the final round.

The League Tag competition is still wide open, with the Cobar Roosterettes, Narromine Jets, Gilgandra Pink Panthers, and Gulgong Terriers all fighting for positions in the top five. Saturday’s clash between Gilgandra and Gulgong could prove decisive, while the Dunedoo Swannettes and Coolah Flyers have already secured the top two spots.
