Community football competitions in south-western Sydney’s Wests Tigers Macarthur District, Canterbury District and Group 6 Region are set to kick-off this weekend (1-2 August) following a two-week delay due to the recent COVID-19 outbreak in the area.

NSWRL Chief Executive David Trodden said the health and safety of participants, officials, spectators and the wider community remains the primary concern and he has reminded everyone to remain vigilant upon the start of competitions for under 6s to A-grade.

“I appreciate the patience that has been shown by all our players, coaches, officials and volunteers in south-western Sydney who have been looking forward to being involved with Rugby League again,” Trodden said.

“This season has been a challenging one for all of us and I would remind everyone to still adhere to all the guidelines and advice issued by the government and health authorities around COVID-19.

“I hope everyone connected with the game enjoys their time back on the field this weekend and I wish you all the very best of luck for the season ahead.”

Individual teams (from those areas) playing in Combined Conference competitions can also return to play. Under rule changes implemented by the NSWRL to adhere to government COVID-19 guidelines, the matches missed over the past two weeks will be registered as a draw for both teams.
