The Gerringong Lions have continued their undefeated start to the 2020 South Coast Group 7 campaign with an enthralling 30-28 victory over defending premier Kiama Knights at Michael Cronin Oval on Saturday.

The Lions overcame a 20-12 half-time deficit to record their third consecutive victory to start the new season, which almost became undone when Knights' halfback Cameron Vazzoler had a chance to level the scores with a penalty goal in the dying stages.

It was a thrilling contest of epic proportion with 11 tries scored between the two sides, although the Lions' defiant defensive efforts in the final stanza ultimately proved the difference.

The Lions now boast the best attacking record of any team in the competition, averaging over 35 points game across their three fixtures.

Meanwhile, the Knights will be looking to get their premiership defence on the right track after heart-breaking back-to-back losses – both results being decided by just two points.

It could be a case of third time lucky when they host the Berry-Shoalhaven Heads Magpies on Sunday, much like their groundbreaking premiership triumph in 2019 which came after two consecutive Grand Final losses.

A 28-14 win over Jamberoo Superoos in the decider saw the Group 7 trophy return to Kiama for the first time since 1985, and they were also able to keep hold of the bragging rights in Round 1 with an incredible 9-8 victory over their Grand Final counterparts.

The Superoos have impressed so far in their respective 2020 campaign, conceding just 15 points across their first two matches – the least of any team.

They take on the Nowra-Bomaderry Jets at Kevin Walsh Oval in a blockbuster top-four clash on Saturday, while rivals Stingrays of Shellharbour will take on Shellharbour Sharks at Flinders Field on Sunday.
