Try League kicks off for teens and young adults

NSWRL is pleased to announce Try League will be offered to teenagers and young adults for the first time in 2021 with the program to commence Wednesday 3 February at Rooty Hill in conjunction with SydWest Multicultural Youth Services.

SydWest Multicultural Services, a leading organisation for all cultural diversity issues responding to community needs and opportunities, will invite young people aged 12-24 years to take part in the program for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities.

“Try League is a fun and safe way for people with diverse backgrounds to become involved with Rugby League and we can’t wait to run the program again across the state this season,” NSWRL Head of Football Robert Lowrie said.

“It is fantastic to have SydWest supporting Try League in Rooty Hill this week and we are looking forward to inviting teenagers and young adults for the first time.”

Try League is a program supported by Multicultural NSW which aims to break down the barriers and social isolation for people from CALD communities by introducing them to a non-competitive format of Rugby League.

The pilot program took place in 2018 and involved 70 children and a further 10 programs have been run since involving more than 200 children at areas including Blacktown, Parramatta, Minchinbury, Fairfield and Revesby.

Try League was introduced into regional areas for the first time at Coffs Harbour and Lismore last year and will return there on 10 February.

Try League at Rooty Hill will run for eight weeks and will kick-off in Revesby (9 February) and Fairfield (11 February)
