Mojo Homes Illawarra Cup to stage "Magic Round" weekend

Mojo Homes Illawarra Cup will top-tail their Round Six games this weekend with two highly anticipated ‘Magic Round’ style-competition matches as the exciting one-venue concept moves to Wollongong.

Illawarra Rugby League Operations Manager Nigel Roy said the opportunity presented itself with popular local NRL teams the St George Illawarra Dragons and Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks having a bye this weekend due to Game One of the Ampol State of Origin series.

“This is a great chance for supporters of Rugby League to come and watch our premier local competition,” Roy said.

“We hope to see a huge crowd turn out for all of the Mojo Homes Cup Magic Weekend action.”

All four games from Round Six in the Cup’s new eight-team format for 2022 will be played on Saturday 4 June at WIN Stadium.

“This brings the best of Illawarra Rugby League in the one place; it all makes for a brilliant day of footy,” Roy said.

Kicking things off will be the local derby between Dapto and Corrimal, with the top-of-the table clash between Collegians (2nd) and Western Suburbs (1st) ending proceedings.

“There are some exciting match-ups for our first ever ‘Magic Round’ and we plan on having that same party atmosphere that the NRL creates in Brisbane,” Roy said.

With that aim in mind, ticket prices remain the same as regular weekend entry fees: $8 for Adults, $4 for concession holders, and children under 16 are free.

“The Illawarra Rugby League have taken the opportunity to implement this ‘Magic Weekend’ as the NRL heads into its busy rep season with limited NRL matches taking place,” Roy said.

“While we have implemented the Mojo Homes Cup magic weekend, we are also working hard behind the scenes to keep all competitions proceeding despite the limited availability of fields capable of hosting fixtures throughout this unprecedented wet weather.”

Tickets can be purchased through WIN Stadiums ticketing partner ‘Ticketmaster’ and will go on sale from 12pm Friday 3 June. The Illawarra Rugby League encourages everyone to pre-purchase tickets to avoid any delays in getting into the stadium.
