The Penrith Panthers have received a boost ahead of the 2023 NRL season after Blues second rower Liam Martin re-signed for a further season with the club.
Martin was already contracted for this season but has extended his deal until the end of 2024.
The 25-year-old from Temora, NSW, has progressed through the pathways system to the NRL squad. He made his first-grade debut against Melbourne Storm in 2019 and has won two premierships with the club (2021-22).
Martin has also played six State of Origin games for the Westpac NSW Blues, making his debut in 2021 where he played all three games off the bench in the record-breaking series win, and was part of Australia’s successful World Cup squad last year.
“It means the world to me to re-sign with the Panthers,” Martin told penrithpanthers.com.au.
“This club gave me my first opportunity when I was 17 and it’s become a second home for me.
“I’m really happy to be staying here and I’m really excited for the future at the club and what we can build on following what we’ve really accomplished.”
Panthers CEO Matt Cameron said: “Liam embodies the qualities we value at the out club seen through his determination, courage and a relentless drive to succeed.
“Liam has come through our junior development system and has progressed to the highest level of playing for his state and country.
“We are thrilled to see him commit to the club and look forward to his growth as he continues his rugby league journey in Panthers colours.”
