Trbojevic to miss Origin series with calf injury

Manly Warringah Sea Eagles forward Jake Trbojevic is expected to miss the entire Ampol State of Origin series after aggravating a calf injury that will sideline him for six weeks.

Scans revealed that Trbojevic tore his calf muscle during the Sea Eagles 42-14 win over the Canberra Raiders at GIO Stadium on Sunday.

Trbojevic had targeted the Raiders game to make an early return from a calf problem to push his claims for selection for the Westpac NSW Blues. He ran for 81 metres and made 31 tackles during his 58 minutes on the field.

He was considered for selection for the opening game of the series at Adelaide Oval in Adelaide on Wednesday 31 May before suffering soreness after the game.

Trbojevic has played 15 games for the Blues and was part of the series-winning teams in 2018-19, and 2021.

He was named Player of the Match after helping the Blues to a 38-6 win in Game Two of the 2019 Origin series after shifting to the front row where he played 73 minutes for 158 run metres and 30 tackles without missing one.
