Cleary to miss Origin series with hamstring injury

Westpac NSW Blues halfback Nathan Cleary will miss the remaining two games of the Ampol State of Origin series after scans revealed he had suffered a hamstring injury which will sideline him for six weeks.

Cleary played for the Blues in the Game One 26-18 loss in Adelaide last Wednesday and backed up for the Panthers against St George Illawarra Dragons at BlueBet Stadium last night. The Panthers No.7 was running back in the defensive line in the 15th minute before clutching at his hamstring and being forced to leave the field.

Cleary has featured in six series for the Blues and was part of the NSW-winning teams in the 2018-19, and 21 series. He was named the Brad Fittler Medallist in 2020 and was on the verge of going past Andrew Johns on the all-time point scoring record for NSW.
