More than 6500 pledges heading into #RESPECT Round

The NSWRL is thrilled to announce that more than 6500 pledges have been taken committing to a positive environment for all Rugby League participants around the state heading into the annual #RESPECT Round this weekend (4-5 May).

The theme for the 2024 campaign is ‘Words have Power’ to remind around 700 clubs and more than 130,000 players, officials, volunteers and spectators of the effect that positive and negative comments can have on the enjoyment of participants.

Clubs, teams and match officials will be asked to participate in game-day protocols this weekend with team captains and match officials to meet in the middle of the field before kick-off and shake hands as a sign of #RESPECT.

Clubs are also encouraged to share photos on their social media accounts with the hashtags #NSWRL #RESPECT #LETTHEMPLAY #COMMUNITYRUGBYLEAGUE

“The early response to #RESPECT Round from clubs taking the pledge has been tremendous as it typifies the spirit that Rugby League should always be played in,” NSW Community Rugby League Manager Peter Clarke said.

“I thank the clubs that have already supported the campaign for 2024 and encourage others to get involved this weekend.”

The top three clubs with the highest number of pledges (based on percentage of membership and regardless of size) will be awarded a prize, along with the top club being presented with the 2024 NSWRL Danielle Kifooti #RESPECT Award.

The prizes include a club visit from Westpac NSW Blues Coach Michael Maguire and/or Westpac NSW Sky Blues Coach Kylie Hilder and True Blue ambassadors, a $1000 Steeden voucher and a signed Westpac NSW Blues State of Origin jersey.

There are plenty of clubs already involved, with strong numbers being recorded in Macarthur, Parramatta, Newcastle, Group 20 and Group 11. There is still time to take the pledge before entries close on Friday 17 May with the winners to be announced on Thursday 23 May.

The #RESPECT campaign started in 2016 and continues to grow each year aligning with the NSWRL’s vision to eliminate poor behaviour and promote a positive environment for all players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and families.
