The NSWRL is preparing for a huge weekend (13-14 September) of finals action at Leichhardt Oval with six matches, including the Grand Finals for the Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup and Sydney Shield, to be played across two days at the iconic Rugby League venue.
The action will kick off on Saturday when Wentworthville United take on Manly Leagues in the Sydney Shield. Wentworthville finished the season as Minor Premiers but face a Manly team that has rebounded from a loss in Week One of the finals with Braith Alexander, the son of True Blue Greg Alexander, calling the shots at halfback.
The focus will then shift to the Leagues Clubs Australia Ron Massey Cup with St Marys Saints and Wenty Magpies renewing their rivalry. Wenty have been the most successful club in the competition with seven premierships to their name but St Marys have been a dominant force this season after finishing as Minor Premiers with a team that includes former NRL players Bryce Cartwright, Michael Jennings and Christian Crichton.
There will be four matches on Sunday with the Minor Semi-finals and Major Semi-finals to be decided for the Jersey Flegg Cup and The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup.
The action will start with Jersey Flegg Cup Minor Premiers Melbourne Storm taking on the second-placed Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks in the Major Semi-final with the winner to progress to the Grand Final at CommBank Stadium on Sunday 28 September.
A spot in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup decider will also be on the line when Minor Premiers the Warriors tackle St George Illawarra Dragons also in a Major Semi-final.
Both teams boast strong line-ups with Taine Tuaupiki, Bunty Afoa, Samuel Healey and The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup Player of the Year Kalani Going being named for the Warriors, and Loko Pasifiki Tonga, Lachlan Ilias and Jacob Halangahu for the Dragons.
The day will conclude with two sudden death Minor Semi-finals with Canberra Raiders taking on Penrith Panthers in the Jersey Flegg Cup, while Parramatta Eels face the Raiders in The Knock-On Effect NSW Cup.
Tickets are available at the gate for as little as $10, while pensioners and children aged 12 and under are free.
