The NSWRL is pleased to announce 42 Rugby League clubs across NSW have shared in more than $370,000 in funding under the NSW Government’s Local Sport Grant program which is designed to increase participation, host events, improve access and enhance sport and recreation facilities.
The Local Sport Grant program offered up to almost $4.5 million to support sporting clubs and associations across NSW, with $50,000 available in each electorate and grants of up to $20,000 available for individual projects. The tender process ran from June to August with the recipients recently announced.
NSW Rugby League clubs accounted for eight per cent of the total funding of $373,386 with amounts ranging from $2,000 to $20,000. The funding projects included uniforms, training equipment and programs, camera equipment, PA systems, goal posts, scoreboards, clubhouse upgrades, referees communication equipment, water tanks and storage shed alarms.
The key objectives of the Local Sport Grant program align with the strategic plan of the Office of Sport which aims to:
- increase regular and on-going participation in sport
- increase participation opportunities for unrepresented groups including women and girls, people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities, people with disability, First Nations peoples and LGBTQIA+ people
- reduce barriers and improve access to participation in sport
- assist sport clubs to provide quality experiences to their members and meet community needs. Increase financial sustainability and improve facilities of community level sporting clubs.
NSWRL has also been proactive in improving the facilities for clubs and participants after delivering almost $1.4 million in funding through its Infrastructure Investment Fund last year.
The funding assisted 12 community Rugby League clubs and local councils across the state with crucial infrastructure projects valued at almost $8.7 million with the $1,387,180 in funding assisting with areas including new playing fields, new or upgrading amenity buildings, lighting, drainage, returfing, storage and irrigation.
