The Christie and Hood Castlereagh League approaches the halfway mark with Round Seven this weekend.
Two match-ups stand out as potential cracking games; those being played at Cobar where the Roosters will host Coonamble Bears, whilst at Coonabarabran the second-placed Unicorns will be entertaining Dunedoo Swans who currently sit fourth on the competition ladder.
The first-grade game at Cobar will be the Rooster’s first defence of the Boronia Cup, which they won in fine style with a resounding 64-18 win over Dunedoo Swans in Round Six.
They go into the game as undefeated competition leaders and whilst the Bears sit outside the top five the Roosters would be ill-advised to take them cheaply.
Four of the five top try scorers thus far in season 2026 will feature in this fixture with Cobar having Tristan Everett (10) and Tadgh McMullen (8), while the Bears have Kevin Thurston-Welsh (10) and Jarran Welsh (8).
Dunedoo’s task of rebounding from their heavy loss to the Roosters in their last game will not be easy, having to travel to Coonabarabran to take on the in-form Unicorns, who have only lost one game against Cobar at Cobar in Round Three.
In other games, Coolah Roos will be hosting Gilgandra Panthers with a win being vital for both sides.
By the lofty standards Coolah set in seasons 2024-25, the Roos are having a leaner year this time round, but they are still well and truly in contention for a finals berth with a win over the Panthers needed to aid their cause.
The final game will feature Warren Bulldogs and Gulgong Bull Terriers at Warren. The Doggies are yet to win a game this season and will be hopeful of getting the points against a Gulgong outfit that has been inconsistent this season, as evidenced last round against Narromine Jets where they went into half-time trailing 36-0 before winning second half 28-18.
Narromine has the bye in first grade.
