Past and present participants in rugby league within New South Wales now have the chance to use rugby league to succeed off the football field thanks to a unique partnership between the New South Wales Rugby League and the International College of Management, Sydney (ICMS).
As a part of the NSWRL's Welfare and Education program, the NSWRL will be opening up its doors to two dedicated and promising university students who will receive a valuable scholarship, which includes both paid industry placement and tuition credit. People who have past experience in rugby league, as a player, coach, trainer, match official or rugby league administrator are eligible to apply for the prestigious scholarship.
Scholarship selection includes:
· $30,000 tuition credit towards ICMS Bachelor’s degree
· Placement in NSWRL paid internship
Eligibility Criteria:
· Past or present rugby league involvement in New South Wales
· Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Sports Management at ICMS
"These scholarships will significantly improve the lives of those who are fortunate enough to be awarded them," NSWRL CEO David Trodden said. "Education is vitally important to career prospects and personal development and through this agreement, both the NSWRL and ICMS are making it more accessible to those involved rugby league in New South Wales."
As a part of the partnership, NSWRL and ICMS will select two rugby league enthusiasts pursuing a Bachelor’s degree. The two chosen recipients with receive up to $30,000 fee credit each towards their course as well as a year-long internship position at the NSWRL office. Interns will gain invaluable sports-industry work experience and have the opportunity to work across multiple departments within NSWRL, including but not limited to community, marketing, finance, welfare, media and football operations. In addition, the NSWRL internship will cover the compulsory workplace hours required by ICMS students as a part of their bachelor’s degree.
"Interning at NSWRL has been a phenomenal experience. I get to combine my passion for rugby league with my studies,” explained Michael McKeough, Sports and Business Management student at ICMS and current NSWRL intern. “I’m very lucky to take what I learn in the classroom and put it into practice at such an incredible organisation.”
In addition to the invaluable opportunity to join the front office at New South Wales Rugby League, the icing on the cake is the significant tuition credit to be awarded to the two lucky students.
“We’re excited about our new partnership with ICMS. Not only do we look to develop rugby league players at NSWRL, but we are also looking to develop rugby league administrators. This administrative pathway program will prepare interns for a bright future in the sports industry and give them a foot in the door to a career in Rugby League,” said Greg Nichols, Welfare and Education Programs Manager at NSWRL. “We look forward to seeing the partnership and intern placement program grow over the next few years.”
