3. Kerrod Holland (Newcastle Knights)

Fleet-footed Newcastle centre Kerrod Holland capped a memorable season by claiming the VB NSW Cup title – and by signing a two-year deal with Canterbury. The prolific pointscorer, who crossed for 12 tries during the regular season and six during the finals series, stamped himself as a player of the future with a memorable year as his side marched from seventh to the premiership.

The Bulldogs will benefit from having the 184cm, 94kg utility back on their books – not only is the 23-year-old a promising athlete but a capable goalkicker too, booting 45 goals for the season. With such a strong all-round game, there’s little wonder why the likes of Des Hasler and Noel Cleal – and a number of other clubs – were so keen to obtain his signature.

4. Sami Sauiluma (Newtown Jets)

Cronulla-contracted Sami Sauiluma had a year to remember for the Sharks-aligned Newtown Jets in 2015, selected in the 2015 VB NSW Cup Team of the Year after a number of standout efforts across the year. The former Canberra Raider ran for 2805 metres across the regular season (ranked fourth in the competition) as well as registering 75 tackle breaks (ranked sixth).

The hard-running 184cm, 108kg centre gets a run in the VB NSW Cup Team of the Year for the second year running after another strong season, one of the Jets’ standouts in an otherwise lacklustre year. The off-contract utility back is searching for a club at present, with rumoured interest from French rugby.
