NSW VB Blues and St George Illawarra back-rower Tyson Frizell has been taken to hospital for precautionary scans following an injury sustained in the Dragons' 16-12 win over the Wests Tigers.

After an impressive showing for the State on Wednesday night, Frizell turned in another strong performance for his club side, before being taken from the field in obvious discomfort.

"Tyson Frizell copped an elbow to his pectoral in the second-half against the Wests Tigers," St George Illawarra Head of Athletic Performance Nathan Pickworth said in a club statement.

"As he is in a fair bit of pain, we want to send him to the hospital for an x-ray for a possible rib fracture. Once we have that scan it'll tell us more information and we'll do any other follow up scans after that."
